Reimagining southern African Geology
Strategy - Looking past traditional geoscience & mining, removing barriers, highlighting the region’s geology as a natural legacy & driver of inclusive & sustainable development Geology - foundation of our modern society:
➢ Bed-rock for locating essential natural resources (water, minerals, energy),
➢ Providing soil and sustenance for the natural environment and plant, animal and food sources
➢ Guiding safe infrastructure engineering, mitigating natural hazards (earthquakes & landslides)
➢ Supporting environmental sustainability, resource management and life on earth Sharing knowledge – on-going learning of Earth’s processes:
❖ With geologists, technocrats, policy-makers, laypersons, students, scholars & learners ❖ Key to sustainable population development
❖ Unlocking access to mineral resources, water & food supplies
❖ Understanding dynamic earth processes (e.g. plate-tectonics, climate change, aquifers, …)
